Free-Tip Tuesday Volume XLVI: Nutrition On a Budget (Time)

Just as it is with training, 'lack of time' is often cited as a major barrier as to why people are unable to prepare their own meals and end up eating out so often where they are no longer under control of what they are putting in their bodies. Here are a few ways to make 'time' much less of an issue:

1. Double it up. Found a recipe or meal you really enjoy? Simply make more of it by doubling the recipe. Then package up the extras as leftovers for the week.

2. Slow it down. Take advantage of the convenience of crockpots and similar slow cookers. Throw all your ingredients in either the night before or in the morning before you leave and simply plug it in before you walk out the door. Return home to an aroma-filled home with a meals that needs nothing more than served.

3. Don't cook at all. Take advantage of minimal-prep or prep-less meals that are essentially ready to eat as is. Greek yogurt/fruit/spice mixtures. Natural PB/fruit mixtures. Cheese/fruit mixtures. Jerky and fruit. Etc. Protein and vegetables/fruit!
