  1. Getting better my brother. Don't think I haven't been watching!

  2. Yeah, ditched the metformin about 3 weeks ago after I ran out since it appears I don't have a sensitivity issue. Only using 5-6 units of insulin/day.

Mood, etc. still seem to be improved; feeling strong again. ~100g/day of carbs seems to work well. Been trying hard to keep the protein lower.

Some cranky and sensitive poeple out there this weekend eh? Ha ha!

  3. Hey that's how it goes. I'm destined to be friendless in the blogosphere. No one agrees with me.

You were on a low-carb diet prior with higher numbers. With such a minimal amount of insulin (2 units per meal) it seems quite evident that whatever you did in the interim might've caused improvement.

What do you think? Is it purely attributed to taking insulin?

  4. Like you said; cognitive dissonance cultivates an enviroment for progress. Though most of it was misguided and downright inaccurate.

Yeah low-carb went from working, to not working, to....who knows. I was taking upwards of 15 units/day the first half of January; with a minimum of 10.

On a side note; what is low-carb? Is it 100g/day? 50g/day? See what I am getting at? It seems everyone has a different opinion; and what implications does that have for the things we observe? As I said I aim for ~100-125g/day.

I seriously doubt the improvement can be attributed to a single variable such as beginning use of insulin.

    - I've tried to limit the size of each incidence of carb intake to ~30g as opposed to ~50-75g.

    - I have re-introduced starches that I haven't ate in I don't know how long.

    - about 30 days in of ZERO fruit intake.

    - I have a weakness for "provolone logs"(PUFA) at a local establishment that I haven't indulged in for a few weeks

    - 2 weeks off of training

    - hitting nutrients like magnesium, maganese, and potassium probably better than at any time in my life prior. probably should throw chromium in there too with all the tomatoes and onions I have been eating.

    - a concentrated effort in the last 1-2 weeks to sit as little as possible at work.

    - magic of coconut milk?

Any and all of these things(and others) could be having a small hand in the improvement. One thing that seems to not be HURTING is saturated fat intake! Something I have wanted to debate with Dr. Mirkin due to some of his recent posts/statements; but it seems he doesn't allow any comments through moderation.

  5. ...and I can't forget the impact of all the damn shoveling I have done since Friday! Over 21 inches so far; and calling for up to 8 more overnight and into tommorrow.

  6. One last thing of possible interest that I have been doing the past week or so...

I have gotten away from the popular fitness world reccomendation of eating every 5-6 smaller meals/day every 3 hours or so; and as you have seen only going with 3 larger meals(and the occassional small snack before bed) at least 5 hours apart.

Additionally, shooting for 12 hours between my last meal of one day and the first of the next. I came across a study the other day(that I can't find for the life of me now) examining the differences between allowing the rats/monkeys(can't remember which) to eat either continously throughout the day; or only at pre-determined times spaced apart throughout the day while still ingesting EQUAL total calories. The group that ate continously thoughout the day gained weight; but more importantly had some disturbing bio-markers in the liver; while the other group either maintained or lost weight and were absent of the liver bio-markers. A piss-poor summary for sure; but if I come across it again I will forward it to you.

Could be just one of the many things the bodybuilding world has bastardized. It's not like Sisson's Grok was running through the f*#king jungle with tupperware containers and tracking the moevement of the sun to make sure he ate every 3 hours. I would imagine they ate when they were hungry and until satisfied.

Seems people have gotten so caught up on the negative aspects of cortisol in our field they forgot to make the distinction of whether it was acute or chronic.

  7. Grok Tupperware. I like it. Sisson should look into selling some of that shit.

My own life expeience tells me that some healing did occur on HED despite higher numbers during that phase.

More important, has been cutting out the exercise. In my mind, exercise makes it really hard to heal, especially breaking down tissue with weightlifting and what not.

Meal spacing is probably better too. 3 meals per day is a tradition for a reason. It's probably the optimal interval for humans to eat.

    Keep up the good work.

  8. I have taken this week off of training as well. I will resume on Thursday. I also have cut out all of the Biotest products I was using for almost a month now.

I agree on the meal spacing.
